This piece was created for the Elemental Exhibition at the Northern Clay Center. I represented the element of fire.

Fire is my material, my tool…and my muse.

I use ceramic materials to investigate, articulate, and record the physical and metaphysical nature of energy.

In my “machine objects”, electricity is my animating principle. Electricity is “fire” made contemporary. I retain fire through the form of electricity as a means to demonstrate, rather than illustrate, energy relationships. Heat and light, fire’s products of combustion, create a sensory narrative. These “machine objects” are intimate, quiet, and demand a viewer’s readiness to suspend his/her disbelief. One is asked to invest in the subtle incurring storyline.
